Landis did an amazing job coming back from his disastrous day in the Alps to win his first Tour. It was a very exciting race to watch, and July television being what it is, my wife was happy to join me. Yes ,that’s right. The only complaint I got about watching the tour was on the nights when we couldn’t… “Honey, no Tour for me!”. Ya’ll can be jealous if it’ll make you feel better. Anyway, I’m hoping Landis comes all the way back next year after his hip replacement.

(What about the socks? In an early in his career race Landis decided that there a bit too much emphasis on fashion and so wore a very “uncool” outfit… including knee high argyle socks pulled all the way up. He of course got the down the nose look from all the riders. He then rode away with the race taunting his fellow riders with shouts of “How do you like my socks now?” and “Maybe you’d like to see how they look from further away… lemme go up the road a bit.” He won by 15 minutes. While I cannot repeat this particular feat, I wouldn’t mind because road cycling is waaaay too fashion conscience for my taste. All the more surprising since everyone seems content to be a rolling billboard for companies that provide them with nothing. It really annoys me that my bike has large company name decals which I can’t remove. You want me to advertise your brand? Pay me!)
